The Design Process

At New Dimensions, we appreciate how valuable your time is.  That’s why we make an effort to streamline the process of designing your project, while at the same time making sure all details have been accounted for.  Here’s how it works:

  1. Upon getting into contact with New Dimensions, we will have a preliminary discussion of the goals of your project.  After a brief review of the details, you will receive a price quotation along with a description of what will be provided.
  2. If you’re located within a reasonable distance of New Dimensions in Enfield, CT (generally anywhere within a 50-mile radius), we will visit your site and take all necessary measurements required to complete the drawings.  This is a good time to give us any sketches, photos, and catalog cut-outs you may have regarding the project.  If we decide that it is not practical for us to visit your site due to distance, then you can take the necessary measurements, pictures, etc. and forward them to us so that we can get going on your project.
  3. Once we have all the necessary information to get started, New Dimensions will create a Preliminary Design.  This will allow us to work together and ensure that you're happy with the Architectural Aspects.  From there, we'll move on to complete the remainder of the design.  Time frames will vary based on your needs and the complexity of your project.  These will be agreed upon in step one.
  4. Upon completion of the initial drawings, they will be forwarded to you for review.  You will make comments on the drawings and forward them back to us to implement for the Final Design Drawing set.
  5. We will make the final changes and forward the drawings back to you.
  6. You are now ready to send the drawings out to contractors and/or the building department for prices and permits, respectively.

Design Packages:

All residential design work will be done in accordance with applicable building codes.  However, we realize that some projects require more detail than others.  Pricing for all design packages is based on an hourly rate, depending on the complexity of the project.  The number of hours required to complete your project will depend on the level of detail you require. The following is a simple breakdown of the different levels:

  • Architectural Package – This is the simplest of the design packages.  Included will be floorplans and elevation views with the minimal amount of technical details.  Although this level of detail will be more than enough information for an experienced builder to complete the job, there may not be enough details for you to obtain Building Permits.  See our Samples page to see the types of drawings that are included with this package.
  • Construction Package – This package consists of all the details included with the Architectural Package, along with additional structural information required for obtaining building permits and/or a review and stamp by a Certified Engineer.  If the building department and/or engineer require technical revisions to approve the plans, these changes will be made without any additional fees. If applicable, included will be foundation plans, framing plans, general plumbing fixture layout.  See our Samples page to see the types of drawings that are included with this package.
  • Additional Details - 3D Realistic Renderings, Electrical fixture layouts and HVAC design and specification can be added to either of the above packages.  Material Specifications and quantity takeoffs are also available
