Frequently Asked Questions Table of Contents:
1. Do you provide Engineer’s Stamps for your Residential Designs? Although all design work is performed by a Licensed Professional Engineer (Connecticut), we generally do not provide Engineering Seals for Residential Applications. In most areas of the United States, residential permitting will not require the approval of a Professional Engineer. Although some cities and towns do require a stamp, in many cases the Building Department will waive the requirement when they see that our plans conform to national and state building codes. If necessary, in the State of Connecticut, we can provide Professional Engineering Seals. 2. How can I be sure that your designs will be in accordance with the Building Code in my area? We will research the governing codes and regulations for the City and State in which your project is taking place. Requirements are generally the same for most municipalities, but we will make sure we account for any special requirements of your Building Department before submitting a proposal to you. 3. Do you guarantee approval by the Building Department and/or Engineer? Yes. Any project that we undertake for the purpose of permitting or construction will be guaranteed for the approval of the Building Department and/or Professional Engineer of your choosing. If either party finds inadequacies in our plans, required changes will be made at no additional cost to you. 4. How many copies are included? The typical design package will include one(1) set of 24”x36” color plots, unless a request for additional copies is requested before the submission of our proposal. Additional copies are available and generally will cost approximately $1.50 per sheet. 5. Are AutoCad files available? Yes. CAD files are available on request for an additional fee that will depend on the nature and complexity of your project. Other media types are also available (such as pdf, jpg, bmp, plt, etc.) without an additional fee. 6. Is a materials list included with the design package? No. However, for a small additional charge, a complete material takeoff can be performed and presented in a fashion that will make it easy to order and get pricing from multiple vendors.
7. How long will it take to complete my design?
Some projects can be turned around in less than a week. However, the time frame for completion will really depend on the scope and complexity of the project. A completion date will be agreed upon and included in the detailed quotation for any project.
Before the project starts, we will send you a detailed quotation of the lump sum cost of the project, including a description of exactly what will be provided. This quotation will become our Service Agreement if you choose to award the project to us.
